Clever Ways to Hide Technology in Your Home

Technology—a necessary evil. These days almost everyone has some form of technology inside the home, but it is not always the most pleasant thing to look at. Here are a few clever ideas that will help you easily hide any unsightly technology in your home.

Turn Your TV Into Art

Long gone are the days of TV cabinets and consoles taking up an entire wall of your house. With the advent of smart TV’s, you can easily make your television look like a piece of art. Some manufacturers like Samsung make TVs designed specifically for this, such as their Frame TV with customized frames.

Simply mount your TV on the wall and set the picture to your favorite piece of art. Art can be selected from various pre-loaded options on the Samsung TV. However, if you don’t want to purchase a TV specifically designed for this, any smart TV can be used this way. Download the app the app Artcast, which features many different designs to choose from. If you are using a regular smart TV, you can take it an extra step by adding a frame to the edge of your current TV, as seen in this DIY tutorial.

Hide Your Appliances with Custom Cabinetry

If you are planning a more extensive renovation, you can request that custom cabinetry be built to hide appliances such as microwaves and coffee makers. Built-in outlets and pull out shelves make using your appliances easy, but keep the appliances hidden when not in use. This also frees up valuable counter space. If renovations aren’t an option, consider putting away smaller appliances unless they are in use.

Hide Unsightly Cords

There are many different ways to hide cords such as wrapping longer cables and cords with cable wrap. This is commonly done with TVs that are mounted to the wall. The cable covers can even be painted to blend in with the wall completely.

Another option to hide cords is to select furniture with smart features such as this sofa with a built in USB charging port for your phone or this charging nightstand with built-in outlets and USB ports.

By cutting small, unnoticeable slits in an area rug, you can run lamp cords underneath, preventing them from being seen. An added bonus of this method is that it reduces the likelihood that someone will trip on the loose cords.

As technology gets smarter, companies are finding new and innovative ways to cut down on the clutter it brings.
